Auteur de quelques films cultes tels que la trilogie Pusher, Bleeder ou encore Bronson, Nicolas Winding Refn revient cette semaine avec Le Guerrier Silencieux (Valhalla Rising), un trip étrange qui nous plonge dans un univers médiéval aux côtés d'une bande de guerriers vikings épuisés par la famine et minés par la peur. Si le cinéaste affiche toujours la même fascination pour la violence viscérale, il prend le contre-pied des attentes suscitées par le genre et travaille subtilement son atmosphère pour plonger ses personnages dans un songe éveillé à la fois oppressant et nihiliste prenant des allures de purgatoire.

Nicolas Winding Refn et Mads Mikkelsen étaient de passage à Paris le mois dernier et nous ont tous deux accordé un peu de leur temps pour nous parler du film.

Author of several cult films such as the trilogy Pusher , Bleeder or Bronson , Nicolas Winding Refn is back this week with The Silent Warrior (Valhalla Rising), a strange trip that plunges us into a medieval world alongside a band of Viking warriors exhausted by famine and plagued by fear. If the filmmaker always displays the same visceral fascination with violence, he takes the floor against the expectations raised by gender and subtly works its atmosphere to immerse the characters in a dream awake at once oppressive and nihilistic take on the appearance of purgatory.

Nicolas Winding Refn and Mads Mikkelsen were visiting Paris last month and we were both given a bit of time to talk about the film.

Quelques semaines après la promotion de Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky où nous l'avions déjà rencontré, Mads Mikkelsen était de retour à Paris pour soutenir la sortie du dernier film de Nicolas Winding Refn, Le Guerrier Silencieux (Valhalla Rising).

C'est le même Nicolas Winding Refn qui révélait l'acteur en 1996 avec son excellent Pusher (Nicolas Winding Refn), premier volet de ce qui allait devenir plus tard une trilogie. Huit ans plus tard, Mads Mikkelsen tient le rôle principal de Pusher II: du Sang sur les Mains, dans lequel il délivre une prestation blufante et étonnamment touchante en junky décérébré, fraîchement sorti de prison et méprisé par son père. Entre temps, la collaboration entre l'acteur et le cinéaste donne lieu en 1999 à Bleeder, où Mikkelsen côtoie une bonne partie du casting de Pusher (Kim Bodnia, Zlatko Buric).

Doté d'une présence et d'un magnétisme hors du commun, Mads Mikkelsen révèle à travers sa carrière danoise un éclectisme passionnant puisqu'on le retrouve aussi bien dans la comédie noire Les Bouchers Verts chez Anders Thomas Jensen (avec lequel il travaille aussi sur Adam's Apple) que dans le drame familial très émotionnel After the Wedding de Suzanne Bier, ou même dans Open Hearts de la même réalisatrice.

A l'étranger, Mads Mikkelsen côtoie Gérard Depardieu dans Dina en 2002 et Clive Owen dans Le Roi Arthur en 2004, avant d'étendre sa renommée avec le rôle du Chiffre dans Casino Royale. On le retrouvait récemment chez Jan Kounen dans Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky où il incarnait le célèbre compositeur et on le dévouvrira prochainement chez Louis Leterrier dans Le Choc des Titans.

Mads Mikkelsen retrouve pour la quatrième fois Nicolas Winding Refn avec Le Guerrier Silencieux (Valhalla Rising), un voyage troublant dans lequel il incarne One-Eye, un guerrier viking mutique dont le mystère n'a d'égale que la brutalité au combat. De passage à Paris le mois dernier, Mads Mikkelsen nous a accordé un peu de son temps pour nous parler du film, de son approche du métier d'acteur et bien sûr de Nicolas Winding Refn.

A few weeks after the promotion of Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky where we had already met, Mads Mikkelsen was back in Paris to support the release of the latest film by Nicolas Winding Refn , The Silent Warrior (Valhalla Rising) .

This is the same Nicolas Winding Refn revealed that the actor in 1996 with his excellent Pusher ( Nicolas Winding Refn ), the first part of what would later become a trilogy. Eight years later, Mads Mikkelsen takes the lead role in Pusher II: Blood on Hands, in which he delivers a surprisingly touching and delivery blufante junky in decerebrate, fresh out of prison and despised by his father. Meanwhile, the collaboration between the actor and the filmmaker gives rise Bleeder in 1999, where Mikkelsen alongside a good part of the cast of Pusher (Kim Bodnia, Zlatko Buric).

With presence and magnetism unusual, Mads Mikkelsen reveals through his career Danish eclecticism exciting as it is found both in the black comedy The Green Butchers in Anders Thomas Jensen (with whom he also worked on Adam's Apple) in very emotional family drama After the Wedding of Suzanne Bier, or even in Open Hearts director of the same.
